Leaders Are Challenging
All great leaders are challenging and invitational.
The ability to lead a team to perform high quality requires that the leader be highly invitational & challenging.
How can a leader become more challenging
- Small steps
Start with a very small challenge. Start with challenging yourself to do something your afraid of doing. Challenge yourself first. Take one small step at a time.
- Dare to speak
Say what needs to be said! Don’t wait, write it in a email or delicate it. Challenge yourself to say what needs to be said.
- Out of comfort zone
Be willing to take a punch. Overcome your fear of what others will think or say about you. Remember, no great victory has ever been won without a battle.
- Speak straight
Say what you think it. Don’t beat around the bush. Make it simple and straight forward. Great challenges are easy to understand.
- The hard questions
Ask the hard questions even if you don’t have the solution. Challenge the people you lead to come up with the solution. Your job as a leader is to challenge. Ask the hard questions – then listen!
- Hang out
To become more challenging you have to hang out with people that are challenging or challenge you. Most of us like to avoid to much time with people like that, but it’s actually the best way to learn how to become more challenging as a leader.
- Communicate
Listen to how you speak. Are you speaking a challenging language? Are you challenging yourself with the works you speak?
