Are Books Dying?

Blog auf Deutsch.

The truth about this world is, that it will reinvent it’s self faster than we would like to think. Just the other day I was talking to my friend at work about Facebook and Twitter. He said, that he is not that kind of guy who would write posts.

It was a similar response that I have gotten when I had my first mobile phone about 15 years ago. People said: “I will never have a mobile phone. I don’t want to be reachable all the time.” The same people own at least one mobile phone by now.

About 13 years ago, when I got my first email address. I was one of the first in my neighborhood. Almost everybody said: “I don’t need this. I have a mailbox in front of my house”. All those people have an email address and use it everyday.

Again, the truth is the world is moving so fast you can’t stay at the heartbeat of time by not being open to new things and letting go of the things that you have gotten used to.

I saw this new device called the IS Tablet and I think this will be the beginning of a new era again.
Are books and print media going to die?

After watching this video I thought to myself. Yes, this is how I would love to “read” a magazine. I think my kids would love to read in this kind of way too. Even my mom would like it (she is on Facebook since 5 month).

I got a book called “DERAILED : five lessons learned from catastrophic failures of leadership / by Tim Irwin”. Its a book from Thomas Nelson Publishing. On the inside of the book it explains the new Nelsonfree concept – Instead of being locked into one format or another, with Nelsonfree you buy one format and you get two more for free - an ebook and an audio version.

Books and print media are not dying away right now, but it’s changing and we getter get used to it.
There is still something secret about taking a good book and hiding somewhere save from the outside world. And on the other hand I love new inventions and can’t wait to use this new Tablet myself.

Question:

  • What are you thinking about this change of books and magazine publishing?

Keep Social Media Simple

The way to keep social media simple is to be selective.

Social Media can be overwhelming. Don’t get me wrong: I love social media.

Social Media exists for three reasons:

  1. to connect with people
  2. to share with others
  3. to learn from others

If you feel like you are spending to0 much time with social media.

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Why do I want to go to this social media site?
  2. Is this site more conducive to broadcasting or engaging in a network of people?
  3. What’s the benefit of this social media site to me?
  4. Am I looking to pass the time using a social media?

Here are the Apps I use:

  • Instagram. I love taking pictures. I love learning form others. Some great connections have been made over the last years.
  • I use the free Buffer App to schedule the sharing of things I think are important. This saves me lot’s of time and I don’t have to be online all day.
  • I used the JustUnfollow service to unfollow some people on miss out on what my friends have to say when I log in to join the conversation.
  • Hootsuite. I enjoy being involved in chats, and answering and asking questions online.  I respond to nearly everything…just not necessarily the very second you contact me.
  • My goal is to check in on Twitter and Facebook at least twice a day to keep the conversation going.

I’ve turned off notifications on my phone for my Social Media apps. By having these social media apps off on my iPhone means I’m fully present locally but able to connect without distraction online when I do log in each day.

Tell me…How do you keep social media simple?

4 social media tips to send your business off to achieve social media success:

1) Strategy
First, decide which social networks make most sense for your company. It’s better to have a limited, strategic presence on social media than to be everywhere without purpose.

Define your desired goals. For example, do you have the goal of growing your Facebook community? If so, you should be brainstorming content, promotions, and posts that will attract your target customer.

2) Respond
Assigning an intern to manage the social media channels a few hours per week is simply not enough anymore. Your online community expects to receive responses to inquiries in a timely manner (typical accepted response time is within 24 hours). If you aren’t willing to invest the time and money it takes to respond to your online followers, then you probably shouldn’t be on social media.

Customers want to know someone is listening. The simple task of responding speaks volumes to your customer service. If you don’t have the answer and need some time to find it, let that person know that you have seen their question and you are working to get the answer for them.

3) Content
Don’t just broadcast anything to make it look like you’re active on social media. If you want to build a following, create content that makes you a leader in your industry.

If you don’t have enough time to regularly produce original quality content, share the good content that’s already out there or approach the experts to create content for you.

4) Conversation
In real life, when you’re trying to make friends, talking about yourself won’t get you far. It’s the same with social media. Your participation in the space should foster conversation. It’s okay to tell your online community about a new product or promotion, as long as that’s not all you’re doing.

Make it easy for your community, customers, and industry leaders to share content on your social pages. Be an active listener to better understand what your community wants.

How To Create More Web Traffic

Blog auf Deutsch.

Here are five stupidly simple ways to attract visitors to your website and keep them coming back.I love this pic. It's incredible what you can do with an iPhone 4.

1. Start a newsletter list

Without a doubt, the number one thing you can do to increase traffic is to start a newsletter list.
Here’s why.
An e-mail list is the best way to build recurring traffic. By sending out e-mails to your newsletter list about new articles on your blog, you can guarantee that visitors will continue to return to your site instead of hoping that people will show up when you have something important to say.

2. Get the word out with guest posts

Guest posting is a simple strategy where you create content such as Continue reading How To Create More Web Traffic
